Internet Telephony over Peer to Peer Networks

Peer to Peer technology (P2P) first came into focus through companies like Napster and Kazza, who developed file sharing applications that would allow users to share their own files, as well as search for and download files of other users on the network. Instead of relying on a centralized client server relationship, a peer to peer network gets its strength from each individual node, adding bandwidth and processing power with each new member for the good of the many.

Much like the Borg of the later Star Trek episodes, peer to peer can scale indefinately without the use of expensive central servers, and from a cost standpoint -resistance is futile!

We Want To Learn To Play The Harmonica!

The humble harmonica has to be one of the easiest musical instruments to master in the world. Okay, so there are some great Folk and Blues musicians out there that can make this little mouth piece talk their language, but what I’m talking about here is for Joe Average, without a musical bone in his body, being able to knock out a melody in no time at all. What other instrument allows you to do that? You really can learn how to play the harmonica in a matter of days or weeks, depending on your commitment.

Most instruments require you get a beginners book, or if you’re really enthusiastic, a private tutor or perhaps joining a local class so that you can get a head start with your strumming, blowing, picking, or beating, depending what it is you’re trying to master. But with the pocked sized mouth organ, there’s no such learning curve. Just pick one up from your local music store and learn to play the harmonica your way.

I remember the time I purchased my first ever harmonica. It was back in the 1980’s when I was bumming my way around the world, that I struck a fascination with the sounds and notes that could be plucked from this musical mouthpiece. It all began when I came across this Danish couple who were journeying through Western Asia.

Tucked away in their backpacks were an Irish tin whistle and a tuppeny ha’penny harmonica. After dinner one evening, on the outskirts of the Chitwan jungle of Nepal, they began to entertain a small group of us happy hippies with their music. It was at this exact moment in time that I fell in love with, and made a decision to, learn to play the harmonica.

It was some weeks later before I found a place to purchase one. Funnily enough, there’s not a lot of call for music stores in the foot hills of the Himalayas or along the swamps of India, so it wasn’t until I’d landed in Georgetown, on the Malaysian island of Penang, that I found a rickety little shop that had harmonicas on sale for a mere two dollars a piece. I could hardly wait to get started, and so rushed off excitedly to my grimy guest house where I began to lean to play my new toy.

It proved to be a great companion on my travels. The first tune I knocked out was the Christmas carol ‘Silent Night’. Well it was December! But soon afterwards I was doing impressive little instrumentals and jamming sessions with fellow travelers who were trudging the circuit with bulky guitars strapped to their backs.

Whether you’re planning a long trip, or just looking for something to do outside the virtual world of a computer, then why not learn to play the harmonica? It’ll give you heaps of fun without the frustration that comes with more serious musical instruments. Hey, who knows where it could lead you Mr. Dylan!

If you really get a knack for the hand harp, you could then progress onto to say Chicago Blues, Country, Bluegrass, Folk, or even some unique style of your own. Good luck!

Trigger the Desire to Write with an Everyday Object

Ten years ago my husband interned as an English teacher at a public high school in Orange Park, Florida. For nine weeks he taught five standard-level eleventh-grade classes, his classroom bursting beyond capacity as the student-to-teacher ratio appeared to rise each day. Suffice to say, between the crowded

environment and the apathy among his students, many of whom were more interested in working at the mall than investing in an education that could lead to a more lucrative career, my husband had a difficult time motivating his students to write.

It was my husband’s good fortune (maybe) that he had to teach “The Scarlet Letter” during his internship. I’ll say now that I am guessing everybody reading this article had to read that book in high school, and if you were like me you really did not appreciate the story until many years later. Well, Malcolm’s

students were no different; they saw little appeal in a story set in Puritan America, and were less enthused about writing essays. It disappointed Malcolm to have to penalize these students for not doing the work.

One tactic to get them to write, however, did work, and I’ve found it to be an interesting, productive exercise — writing from the point of view of an inanimate object.

Malcolm assigned a one-page paper to his classes, charging them to write a brief monologue from the point of view of the letter ‘A’ sewn onto Hester Prynne’s chest. “You are the Scarlet Letter,”

he told them. “Tell me what you see as Hester stands on the scaffold before her accusers.”

This assignment was what sparked an excitement that infected each class for the rest of Malcolm’s internship. Students loathe to write a sentence had actually exceeded the one-page requirement and turned in some very dramatic pieces. Hester’s scarlet brand

had taken on various personas in that assignment: from a timid object cowering in the heated disapproval of early American villagers to a haughty, shamless flame unaffected by a sea of scowls. Malcolm’s success prompted me to try to same exercise

when I began my teaching internship (one day I’ll post the picture of me dressed as Hester on the Net for all to see), and I was met with similar results.

There’s no reason to think this exercise should be limited to schoolchildren - indeed, I’ve seen this tactic done in a popular piece about three trees which become involved in the life of Jesus at various times, you may have received a copy in your

e-mail. To see things from the vantage point of an inanimate object can give your writing a whole new voice as well as the opportunity to show your readers something unique.

If, for example, a stuffed animal on a child’s dresser could talk, what would it say? How many stories could a statue in a church tell, having witnessed scores of weddings, baptisms, and other events? Let any object in on your story, and the possibilities are limitless.

How Often Should You Look After Your Nails and How to Prevent the Most Common Nail Problems

There are quite a few different problems which can occur with our nails. Uncared for nails can easily become brittle, split and white spots can often appear.

It can be hard knowing how often you should care for your nails and what you should do. However, with a little time and effort you will notice that looking after your nails really does not have to be overly hard.

How Often You Should Look After Your Nails:

As a general rule, your nails should be looked after every single day. Simple hygiene such as using a nail brush and mild soap and water daily is not really a chore and it only takes a few minutes of your time. On top of that there are also other things you can do weekly including:

Removing any old nail polish by moistening a cotton ball with nail polish remover. Press the cotton to the nail for just a few seconds to soften the polish and prevent any rubbing of the nail. In one firm movement move the cotton from the base of the nail, right up to the tip and then repeat until the polish has all come off.

Next shape the nail by using an emery board. It is better to file the nails from the corner to the centre, though you should not file the actual corner itself. It is important to not run the file up and down the nail as this can cause ridges and other potential problems with the nail.

The next step is to soak the hands in warm water for up to a few minutes, in order to remove any built up dirt and bits of nail from the filing that was just done. Use an orangewood stick to clean under the nail.

Many people like to push their cuticles back but generally it is better to leave the cuticle where it is. If you are unsure as to where the cuticle in the nail is, it is basically the skin which grows from the finger onto the base of the nail. Not pushing the cuticle back helps to prevent infections.

Although you can buy different top coats and basecoats, it is thought that a clear nail polish does exactly the same job and so it is cheaper to just apply clear nail polish first. Next choose whichever color you want for your nails and apply. Leave them to dry and then apply another layer of clear nail polish as a topcoat to seal the color in and to prevent chipping.

It is recommended that you visit a professional manicurist every six weeks in order to keep your nails extra healthy. Some good tips for caring for your nails include not using nail polish remover more than once a week. Nail polish remover can cause the nails to dry out and crack and split. Also, after washing your hands always apply lotion or moisturizer to the nails in order to keep them well lubricated and protected.

White spots often occur on the nails and they are generally nothing to worry about. Whilst they can indicate a problem with nutrition, most white spots are caused by rough manicures and too much force applied to the nail. In this case they should grow out on their own and you should make a note to yourself to be extra careful with your nails in future

Also ridges are another common problem which are usually caused by too much pressure on the nail. Some ridges are also down to hereditary factors and these can only be con trolled by smoothing them down using a buffer. If the ridges have only just occurred they can be a symptom of anemia and so it is always better to consult your doctor.

Overall, looking after your nails need not be a chore. It does not take long to scrub under the nails with soapy water using a nail brush, and having a manicure once every six weeks can actually be quite fun. So, look after your nails daily and you should not have many problems!

Do You Want to Know what Goes On at the White House?

Some of the great qualities of our president are his optimism and his self confidence, both of them wrapped in a streak of stubbornness and a sunny disposition. For a New Haven cowboy, George W. Bush is colorful and glib and has acquired most of the attractive qualities of a Houston oil millionaire’s son. But his life in the White House has not been the Roman holiday he envisioned when sitting in his governor’s office in Austin.

In the month of November of the year 2006, the Democratic Party scored a major victory in the mid term elections and all of a sudden found itself in command of both houses of Congress. It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Republican Party and for the herds of neo conservatives, traditionalists, right wing extremists, vociferous talk show hosts and many of those pseudo religious organizations that are ever present in any government environment. For our president, it was especially difficult, but, as we said, he is an optimist and does not wrinkle easily.

“George, what is the matter with you today? You have already taken two showers, shaved twice and used half a gallon of French cologne!”

“Not to worry First Lady. I have an important appointment later this morning and must appear more attractive than usual. I am going through all this trouble because of my loyalty to the party and my love for freedom and democracy. Not to mention my stated aim to protect America. You see, in the performance of my duties. . “.

“George cut the BS. You sound like a freshman on his first date. You better come clean or I’ll talk to Mother Barbara”

“No, please, not that. I’ll tell you but only if you promise not to tell Cheney or Condi”

“Cross my heart. Who is it?”

“Nancy Pelosi!”

“Nancy Pelosi! The new Speaker of the House?”

“In person. We are having lunch together and since it is the first time we meet to discuss the immediate future of our nation, I thought it might be best if I meet alone with her. Hope you understand.”

“I understand as long as you make it a business lunch. No Mariachis, gypsy violinists or champagne, okay? You never know about lady politicians even though I have always admired her. She is one of the few women in Congress that has no presidential pretensions like some lady senators I know and is more concerned with her daily chores than trying to sound like the stateswoman of the decade!”

“Not to worry First Lady. Right after the lunch I have to have a painful session with Rumsfeld. He is out of a job and I have to do something to help him out”

“The least you can do, George. Say hello to Rummy for me!”

The lunch was a success. Both the president and the Speaker of the House were in a cooperative mood and honored their good intentions aimed at solving the nation’s problems and leaving aside petty grievances against each other. The only thing missing at the lunch was a choir singing some selections from Mandel, Schubert and Brentalher.

Back in his office the president greeted the former Secretary of Defense.:

“Thanks for coming Don”

“Always a pleasure Mister President. Do I detect some apprehension on your part? Probably it is my state of mind. You know, retired people are always fearful of pension plans, health care costs, mortgage rates, taxes, etc. Now, what do you want?”

“Well, it is the pension arrangements that I want to talk about”

“What about them?”

“We are going to have to cut back on a few things. With the new team in charge, we are no longer free to grant special benefits to our loyal collaborators. We are dropping the Iraq Premium of six million a year, then the Pentagon Retirement Subsidies of nine million dollars. As Secretary of defense, you lose the Hummer, the Jag, the Chrysler, the Cadillac and the Sewick along with the 4 million dollars a year expense allowance. The Energy Department has withdrawn its offer to contribute 10 million dollars a year to your fund”

“So, what the hell am I left with?”

“How about a new job, Don? We have some guard openings in Guantanamo”

Become A Super Affiliate By Creating Quality Contents

The internet is indeed a huge borderless market. There are various ways of earning around the Internet without maintaining a physical structure where your clients could inquire about the products or services you offer for sale.

Furthermore, you do not need to hire employees to take charge of your online-based business. In fact, you can take charge and probably earn more than a business with several employees. All you need is a personal computer connected to the Internet, self-confidence on earning money online, and basic knowledge of the various methods of earning money online.

The first two basic requirements are quite easy; however, the third one must be your top priority. Remember that there are plenty of avenues to earn online. You can have your “buy and sell” business through online auctions (such as eBay), online marketing where you will promote your products or services through your website, or you may join several affiliate programs. Among these avenues, joining affiliate programs is the best way of earning revenues on the Internet since it does not require products to sell.

In joining affiliate programs or most commonly known as “affiliate marketing”, you will need to sign-up as an affiliate. Once you become an affiliate, you will be required to endorse a merchant’s website. Your website will be your primary tool in advertising and marketing the website of the merchant through such affiliate program. Once visitors click on the merchant’s website you have promoted, you will be given a corresponding commission.

You will notice that the system involved in affiliate marketing is relatively easy, thus earning money is not as hard as you think. However, though the system is convenient on the part of the affiliate, it also takes time to penetrate thoroughly. In fact, if you want to succeed in this kind of investment and become one of the “super affiliates”, you should learn the necessary skills.

One of the skills that you need to learn is how you will be able to drive traffic to the merchant’s website. However, since you are promoting his website, it is a pre-requisite that you need to build traffic first to your site. It is one of the essential points that you must remember when you engage in the affiliate marketing business.

So how you will be able to drive traffic towards your site? Just like AdSense websites and blogs, all you need to do is to create quality content to your site. Keep in mind that content is the most important element for getting your site better search engine page rank, and of course, heavy web traffic. Your site must contain highly-searched keywords, which is detected by the search engine spider to determine your page rankings during search results. However, these highly-searched keywords must be arranged in a meaningful format and provide essential information to your visitor. Thus, you need to write articles that will constitute quality contents for your website.

These articles (which must be related to the contents of the merchant’s website that you are promoting) will be submitted to free article directories or websites offering free newsletters to their clients. Do not forget to provide a brief overview about you as the author and some links back to your site or to the merchant’s website you are endorsing.

If you want to become a super affiliate, always remember two things: web traffic and quality content. These two elements must be present in your affiliate marketing strategies, and you will be able to see the effect once you have applied it.

The Ancient Welsh Art Of Lap Gochand The American Presidency

Once upon a time the Lap Gochi would patrol the streets of the Welsh highlands like gayly-dressed Samurai - their colourful costumes belieing the terrible carnage that could be unleashed with a simple flick of their brochfael (the preferred weapon of the Lap Goch masters that resembles an innocuous oversized handkerchief).

Even then, practitioners who shared the deadly techniques with outsiders were forced to pull their own heads off in front of the entire village as a form of punishment. Nowadays the secrets of Rhyddfedd and Freckleddll are passed on only to those select few who are invited into the remote villages where the remaining Lap Goch masters meet to mentor a new generation of Welsh warriors.

Even so, the fundamental principles of Lap Goch are well known. There are two:

1. That the best form of defence is attack

2. That the most important element in a successful attack is surprise

The Lap Goch practitioner is therefore taught to suprise his opponent by attacking him before he is himself attacked. Indeed, he will attack his opponent, not only before he is actually attacked, but before his opponent has even considered attacking him. Indeed, to be safe, he will launch attacks on a variety of people who have never even so much as thought about attacking him because they have never had any reason to.

Critics of the ancient art have suggested that this makes Lap Goch a simple form of thugery, as it generally involves assaulting complete strangers in the street, long before they might form any notion of attacking the Lap Goch exponent.

The criticism is valid, so far as it goes, but it illustrates too how the Lap Goch master always stays one move ahead in the game. He attacks not only his enemies, but also those who may one day become his enemies. And indeed, amongst the Lap Goch masters, their premonitions are rarely found to be at fault. Over time, almost all of those whom they attack do become their enemies!

There is no doubt that the recent resurgence of interest in the ancient Welsh art has been laregely due to the rumours that the current American President, George W. Bush, is himself a master of the art! Certainly the principles of Lap Goch seem to be at the heart of the President’s foreign policy, though this in itself is not conclusive.

Certainly the Bush-Lap Goch link would help explain the President’s otherwise incomprehensible strategy in the Middle East. It may also help to identity those odd figures, dressed in braces and tall black hats, who have been seen frequently amongst the President’s group of advisors.

Top 5 Characteristics of Successful Dog Training Techniques

When it comes to dog training, there are several factors that will affect whether or not your approach is successful. In addition to being comfortable with the environment and the person handling the training, your puppy or dog must become familiar with a schedule. As the trainer, you must consider a number of factors that will help you to provide the proper training that your dog needs to get him/her started on the road to discipline and good behavior.

Convenience. Although some dogs can be professionally trained as rescue or medical respondents, the majority of pet owners simply want their animals to respond to common commands. Therefore, a convenient and easy to understand approach at dog training will be the most effective. Most pets respond to positive reinforcement, which involves rewarding them with a treat, praise and strokes when they have done something right. If a training program is too complicated, it may require the help of a professional trainer. For standard training, a convenient approach is more likely to produce results.

Cost. When you add up the cost of food, supplies and veterinarian expenses, the cost of a pet is anything but cheap. Unless it involves specialized rescue or medical purposes, training your pet shouldn’t be something that costs a fortune. Enrolling your four-legged friend in dog training classes can be pricey, which is why many pet owner opt for training their puppies and dogs at home with a little help from books, videos and/or training programs. These methods often provide valuable insight and allow pet owners to receive the same results as a trainer could furnish, but at a fraction of the cost.

Training methods. When it comes to dog training, the approach that you use will ultimately determine whether or not your attempt is a success or failure. Dog or puppy training should always involve gentle treatment and never include physically or verbally harming your animal. Pets respond to the tone of your voice and positive reinforcement but, during no time, will instilling fear in an animal ever improve your training results. The best and most effective method will include rewards when your pet obeys and ignoring them when they refuse.

Persistence. As with most things in life, results take time. Successful dog training will not occur overnight but, given time, will prove to be a valuable asset to both you and your dog. In order to achieve the best results, you must be willing to spend time working with your pet on a daily basis and continually train your pet even if the task takes more time than you originally thought. In the beginning, responses may be slow or even non-existent. With persistence, you will start to notice a change in your pet that will last a lifetime.

Patience. When it comes to dog training, patience is truly a virtue. Because your puppy or dog doesn’t have the ability to communicate in a verbal way, it will take time to teach him/her how to respond to your voiced commands and tone. When you initially start to train your dog, he/she may not respond at all or may even become anxious if they sense that you have treats in your hand or pocket. The key is to have patience with your pet as he/she tries to learn what you desire of them and how best to achieve it.

Help! What Should I Do To Change My Life?

Is there something in your life that you’ve been wanting to change, but haven’t been able to? If you are asking the question “what should I do to change my life” then you made the all important first step which is to search for an answer. By asking “what should I do to change my life” you automatically imply that there is something in your life that you are not happy with, something that you are dissatisfied with. This is the all important start to creating change by realizing that where you are in life is not where you ultimately want to be and you can only get to where you want to be by knowing where you are.

There are only two real changes we all want to make. We either want to change the way we feel about something or someone, or we want to change our behaviour. All changes we want for and from our lives boils down to these two changes. An awareness of this will help you decide what kind of change you really want from your life.

Most of the time we don’t get ourselves to make a change in our lives because we procrastinate. We think that at some level the change will be more painful than staying where we are, so we keep putting it off, waiting for some external condition to initiate the change for us. So we end up going through years of “wanting to change” but not doing it.

We are all very keen on changing the conditions and circumstances of our lives, but we are not that keen on changing ourselves. We tend to seek outside ourselves asking what should I do to change my life, hoping that someone will deliver the magic bullet. The truth is that all change starts with us; within ourselves. Realize that you and only you are the source and the agent of change. All the resources you need to make any form of change are within you, merely waiting for you to tap into it and use it.

You can change anything and everything in your life with the right strategy. We constantly read about people who were addicted to hard drugs for years and then managed to stop in an instant while others have to go through years of therapy? Change does not come down to your whether you can do it (ability), but whether you will do it. Whether you will do it is a matter of motivation and motivation is nothing but a motive or a reason. If your motive is strong enough then you will unconsciously do any and everything necessary to change. Therefore it is critically important to not only know exactly WHAT you want to change, but to also know WHY you must change.

So, what should I do to change my life? Step one is to get motivated. Realize that every change you’ve ever made in your life happened in a moment. What took time was to finally get yourself to the point where you did what was necessary to make it happen. The challenge is that our cultural conditioning taught us that making significant changes takes a long time and that it is difficult to do. Change happens in an instant. It is not a process and you can do it right now by simply making a decision.
