Chinese mainland tourist groups to visit Taiwan from next month

The Chinese mainland and Taiwan signed a landmark agreement on Friday to allow mainland tourists to travel in Taiwan from next month.

The agreement, taking effect from June 20, will see the first tourist group arrive in Taiwan on July 18.

The two sides set a quota for the number of tourists in line with Taiwan’s accommodation capacity and may be adjusted next year.

“A maximum of 3,000 mainland tourists can travel to Taiwan every day,” the agreement says.

In the meantime, only groups of 10 to 40 tourists are allowed to travel to Taiwan, according to the agreement.

It also prescribes a maximum stay of 10 days for each group.

The two sides agreed on establishment of representative offices to handle tourism issues.

Importance of Content in Web Designing

Filed under: Travel — admin @ 7:27 am

Content available on a web page is nothing but the information or products, which you want your visitor to come and see or purchase the products and any images that is been used to assist that objective. Written information is one best way and is very easier to read for visitor when it is broken up into short, concise paragraphs. You further need to do your best to use high-class grammar and spelling. Run your information by using spellchecker in a word document before your page is uploaded. You don’t need to retype all, just use your right mouse button for copy and paste.

Any time you willing to use images or graphics in or around your content information or products descriptions try to use as small images as possible. Also, refrain from using too many images on any one page because both larges images and too many would considerably slow down the loading time for the web page. You need to remember that your visitor would only wait for about 30 –40 seconds for a page to load before they become impatient and goes for another search.

Using image resize tool for uploaded images is a good idea to resize bigger or smaller images. These tools are adequate for most resizing requirements; however, extreme resizing from very large to very small image or vice versa could be a bad idea because it may result in loss of some detail in the image. One can obtain better result if you resize them first using a quality image-editing program on your computer and then go for uploading your websites.

It is good idea to break up your products into various groups within your catalog to help your pages from being affected by too many images. Even if you sell only one type of products but you have 50 variations of it, you could still use multiple pages by organizing them into categories; for example “Product Name 1”, “Product Name 2” etc.

Lastly, there are various things you could add to your website to spark it up. Things like banners, flashing or graphics, animations or colored text, etc. There’s a saying when it comes to web designing world that is, “Just because you could add something, it doesn’t mean that you should.” Remember as you choose items to put on your site and it would in-turn help you to keep your website looking professional.

Ways that you can help protect the environment

Ways that you can help protect the environment

It seems that every other day there is a new “Green “initiative to help us “Save the Planet”. We are forever being urged to join in and do what we can to help, but What can we do? Will it really make a difference?

It may surprise many of you to know that there are small changes we can make to our everyday lives, which will have a major impact on the environment. If you are really looking to help the environment, you may wish to consider the following simple ideas :-

Switch Off Electrical Appliances when not in use

Switching off, rather than leaving on stand-by, such everyday appliances as your TV and Computer will save enormous amounts of energy. By saving the energy, we can all help to reduce carbon emission into the earth’s atmosphere, thereby reducing pollution and global warming.

Car Sharing

Rather than travel to work alone, why not arrange a car sharing Scheme with one or more of your friends or colleagues? To give you an example, if you drive one of the fashionable 4×4 cars, you will use more energy in a year than you would leaving your fridge door open for seven years, or your TV on for thirty two years! Imagine the savings if you car shared with 2,3 or even 4 people?

Insulation and Turing Down your Thermostat

These two energy saving ideas go hand in hand, and they will save YOU money. By turning your central heating thermostat down by one degree, this will both reduce both your household emissions, and save you £30 a year in energy costs.

If you also update your roof and wall cavity insulation, as well as eliminating annoying draughts around your doors and windows, you will retain more of the heat in your home, and again reduce emission. A win win situation, I think you will agree?

Recycling

Recycling is perhaps the easiest way to help in the fight to save the environment. You can recycle many every day materials including glass, paper, plastics, cans and much much more. Not only does recycling save on energy emissions, the recycling of paper will literally save millions of trees a year, which are the earth’s main source of absorbing some of the harmful emissions in the atmosphere. Not to mention, the chance of saving areas like the Amazon Rain Forests, which contain some of the rarest of animals, many of which are near extinction due to the actions of man.

Junk Mail

While we all complain about the increase in Junk Mail, we very rarely do anything about it and the mail continues to flow through our letter boxes, straight into the bin - with 99% not even opened.

What can you do about this? There are various websites around the world (UK residents check out www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/ for further details) where you can register to receive NO JUNK MAIL. As well as saving your time, your will also be doing a massive amount to help the environment, e.g. every person in the US receives junk mail which is equivalent to one and a half trees a year!! Throughout the US as a whole, this equates to more than 100 million trees a year.

There are many many other everyday changes which you can make to help the environment, they will cost you nothing and many will actually save you money! Why not give it a try? Turn your thermostat down by one degree and see if you notice the difference. We can all help, if we really want to.

The Perfection Myth

Filed under: Travel — admin @ 7:30 pm

You’re not perfect. I’m not perfect. Nobody’s perfect. Give it up.

Nobody likes their nose. Or their knees, for that matter. Everybody finds annoying lumps, bumps and wrinkles, typically invisible to others, in various and sundry locations on their body.

And if you have kids, ideas of perfection go completely out the window. You dress them up; you take them out–and they do you in. Think of it this way: Children are intended to embarrass their parents in public; it’s God’s plan for instant humility.

Then there’s work, where a co-worker from hell, ever on the alert to criticize, seems to be as inevitable as crying babies on a plane. And there’s driving, when the guy in the next car salutes us with half a Peace sign for our unintentional driving faux pas. Not to mention social gatherings during which names vaporize from our brains just as recognizable faces approach.

Imperfection as far as the eye can see. And so it goes. We need to work out a plan whereby we can do our best and somehow not get in a dither that our best can sometimes (Often? Always?) fall short of perfection.

Parents should announce imperfection as a fact of life to their children–right as they come out of the chute. If kids knew the deal from the start, it would save them the wear and tear of trying to achieve the impossible. And it would save a whole lot of singing and dancing by the parents as they try to gloss over their own shortcomings. Which you don’t have to do if you’re giving the parent-thing a good effort. Kids see parents as heroic and larger than life anyway. They don’t need delusions of perfection.

And parents desperately need to remember that no amount of effort will result in a perfect child. The kids won’t always behave perfectly in church or in restaurants. They won’t hit home runs every time at bat. They’ll pick inconvenient times to get loudly unhappy. Children are crazy-making devices, but they’re a terrific blessing. It shouldn’t take a lot of effort to settle for terrific.

Giving up on absolute perfection means we can give life the best we have to give. We can still reach high; still live with great joy. But we won’t have to waste an ounce of energy pretending to be something we’re not.

When we give up on the impossible, we’re free to reach our highest level of possible. Higher by far than we could reach by spending half our time trying to fake it.

Then, all relaxed, we can take a clear look at ourselves and learn the good news–which is that we’re less imperfect than we thought. The truth lies somewhere between perfection and where we believe we are.

In a place called wonderful.

How “Enough” Is Your Auto insurance?

Filed under: Travel — admin @ 5:17 am

Guess what? I know that this is more difficult to say than do nevertheless, having a small number of or, if possible, no driving convictions, you can stay away from being punished by increases in your automobile insurance premium.

Most people that reserve rental vehicles appear at the counter with slight thought given to the “possibilities” that can occur from them driving an automobile that isn’t theirs. Meanwhile, driving their own car without Insurance coverage would be totally unthinkable! So allow us to take out some time to reflect on how to ensure that your rented car is covered.

Find below 3 steps you must take if you are to ensure you have sufficient coverage:

1. While calling the rental car firm for a quote, determine what the coverage costs would be and exactly what it includes/covers. They may have higher insurance rates but may also offer the least harassment and stress, because you may not have to file a claim on your own insurance. Most auto rental firms have a few more options, including buying down the deductible to $100 or so, which is mostly determined by where you reside, or even to $0.

Guess what? A big sway on the cost of your auto insurance is where you reside. The probability of your automobile being vandalized or stolen is a major issue for the insurer.

2. Get in touch with your auto insurance firm. They may previously have cover for your rented cars in certain circumstances. E.g., if your vehicle is in the store, they may automatically shift your coverage and deductible to a rental automobile. This is a replacement-only sort of coverage since they are covering you on a different vehicle. If you pay more, you may well be able to obtain either a momentary or continuous rider (this of course depends on the insurance firm) to cover your rental vehicle even if your vehicle is not in the shop. This is known as a non-replacement-type of coverage as you will need coverage on both autos since both of them could be potentially driven.

3. Make contact with your credit card firm or inspect the cardholder’s contract. Your credit card may cover you for rental auto insurance. Verify that they cover you in your particular situation. For instance, there are some cars they cover (some won’t cover trucks or SUVs) or they may not cover you in relation to where you will be driving or the duration the automobile will be staying with you.

Now that you know all of these, you can make a well-informed approximation of your expected cost so that you are completely covered on your rental automobile. Remember that after all’s been said and done, you want to be “stress free” while on your next journey.

Five Ways to Get Off a Phone Politely

Filed under: Travel — admin @ 10:15 am

When it comes to unwanted calls from businesses and charities offering things you may not want, there is a way to stop these calls before they happen.

In the USA telemarketers and sellers are required to search the US Government’s registry at DoNotCall.gov at least once every 31 days and remove from their call lists the phone numbers of consumers who have registered. If you haven’t already done so, consider registering your phone numbers at this site.

In the UK you can opt-out by registering with the Telephone Preference Service at TPSonline.org.uk and other countries have similar services.

Although opting out will massively reduce the amount of unwanted calls, the problem is you’ll still get calls from companies and organisations that have not bothered to clean their lists against these services.

There is nothing more irritating than someone who won’t get off the line. It wastes time and can be endlessly annoying. So here are some ways to end a call politely that will hopefully save you some frustration. But first, a couple of things to keep in mind:

If like me you often get several unwanted sales people calling every day, it’s hard to stay cool but remember that these people are only doing their job, so do your utmost to be polite and treat them the way you wish to be treated when you make phone calls to people not expecting your call.

It’s tempting to tell outright lies to unwanted callers but it’s easier to be truthful and you’ll come across more forcefully too. And be firm, especially when you are at work. After all, they are in danger of wasting your precious time.

When dealing with unwanted business calls, your key objective must be to take charge of the call. When the caller is a telemarketer selling something or raising funds they are often reading from a script. This not only makes them extremely boring and tiresome to listen to, but makes them susceptible to being taken off course. Interrupt and ask what they are offering. What ever it is, interrupt again and say that you are not in the market for it or that you never buy anything or make donations over the phone, but thanks for calling.

Also, ask them to remove your number from their calling list. However, don’t expect them to always be able to do so because these organisations often use automatic diallers that dial random numbers unknown to the agent. In the UK this is a particularly irritating practice used by companies hawking mobile phone services.

I particularly like the Jerry Seinfeld response. In one episode he told a telemarketer he was busy but would be pleased to call him back at home that evening if he would give him his home phone number. When the telemarketer said he didn’t take calls at home, Jerry said neither did he and hung up.

Dealing with calls from friends and relatives requires more creativity and subtleness.

If you don’t already have one, consider buying a phone that displays the callers number before you answer just like on a mobile cell phone. You may need to ask your phone company to supply you with Caller ID (Calling Line Identification) as well. Some modern phones will also display the callers name and some will even speak it as well. Or install an answering machine that will let you hear the caller speaking through the loudspeaker before you pick up. Both methods enable you to check whose calling and gives you the option to return the call at a time to suit you.

But unless you want to lose all your friends, you’re still going to have to speak to them at some point. Which is fine except that far too many people have verbal diarrhoea and don’t know when to stop talking. All too often they seem to believe a conversation involves them speaking interminably and you listening patiently without interruption. And it’s hard to disabuse them of this view. The upside is that they will tell all your other friends that you are one of the most interesting people they know. The downside is you’ll get a pain in the ear.

So, if you don’t mind telling white lies try some of these…

Interrupt and say someone is calling you or is at the door and you must go.

If you have a child, tell the child the caller would just love to hear about their latest toy / homework / school play / football game etc, then tell the caller the child wants to speak to them and put the child on the line. Then walk away and let the kid get on with it. Generally they’ll soon get fed up with talking to a child.

Hang up whilst you are talking. They’ll think the line went dead. After all, who hangs up on themselves? Then put the answer machine on to catch their call when they call back.

Whatever you do or say, do try to keep cool. After all, remember it’s your blood pressure going up not that of the irritating caller.

Is The Fear Of Embarrassment Keeping You Broke

Filed under: Travel — admin @ 7:07 pm

The fear of embarrassment is a powerful influence in the lives of most people. Imagine that you slipped over in a public street, what would your first reaction be? If you are like most people you would look around to see who saw you.

The other day I read an amazing statistic. It said that as many as half the people who end up divorced had a strong feeling before the wedding that they were doing the wrong thing but they were too embarrassed to pull out at the last minute.

Another, well known, statistic is that fear of public speaking is the number one fear that people have, but is it true? I suggest that their fear of public speaking is really a fear of being embarrassed publicly if they mess up.

So what’s all this got to do with being broke?

In order to become wealthy you need to set a goal to become wealthy. Since having lots of money is a lot more fun than being broke why doesn’t everyone set a serious goal to be rich? The reason is that they are afraid of the embarrassment if they tell everyone that they are going to be rich and then they fail.

It seems crazy to let your life be controlled by the fear of what other people may think of you, yet that is exactly what most people are doing. What about you? Are you letting the fear of embarrassment keep you from reaching your full potential, financially or otherwise?

The first step to getting rid of the fear of embarrassment is to accept that you will never gain the approval of everyone. You could paint your house white and some people will love it but others will think you would have been better painting it blue or yellow. You’ll never please everyone.

If you can’t get the approval of everyone then whose approval should you seek? There is only one person’s approval that you need and that person is you. Happiness comes from within. Wealth comes from within. Success comes from within.

When you set financial goals it is your life that you are aiming to improve. Sure there is the chance that you will fail, but failure is only temporary. If you learn a bit more, and work a bit smarter then you can turn that failure into victory.

There is only one failure that is terminal. That is the failure to try in the first place. If you are letting fear of embarrassment rob you of your potential wealth then you truly are a failure because you don’t have the courage to set a goal and give it your best shot.

Make a decision to say goodbye to the fear of embarrassment. And while you’re at it make a decision to say goodbye to any of your friends who would think worse of your for setting a worthwhile goal and falling short.

Set a financially worthwhile goal. Give it your best shot and if you fall short then take it on the chin and learn some more and then give it another shot. And if anyone criticizes you for that then move on and find a better class of friend.

Choosing Retirement Housing

Filed under: Travel — admin @ 10:05 am

1. Determine if living in retirement housing is for you. Living in retirement housing requires a lot of adjustments and flexibility. Ask yourself if you can be flexible with your new environment. Your lifestyle may also change and you should be prepared that the place, the surroundings, the people and many factors may be far more different from what you have now.

2. Consider it early. Living in a retirement location may require you a lot of time to make a decision. However, you should consider it early. It will be difficult for you to decide when your health is already failing. You need to think about it and decide for it before your body starts to get weak. In addition, moving in to retirement housing will undoubtedly bring on physical and emotional stress because of the changes in lifestyle. Therefore, it is better to make your decisions while you are still strong and able to cope with changes.

Make a checklist of what you like in a retirement location. Getting a handbook of every prospect will also help you make the job easier. Consider the houses, the neighborhood, the different amenities and accessibility of the place.

4. Visit the home. It is better to check on many retirement locations before you make the final choice. You can then narrow down your choices. Visiting the place will help you make the comparison and will make you also consider if the place feels right for you. That will also be the chance for you make a survey of the neighborhood. You can also ask them what they like about the place, the experiences and the things that they do not like about the place.

5. Know the legal structures involved in getting retirement housing. You should be aware of the legal issues, implications that are involved in getting a retirement home. Know the service charges; stamp duties, legislations, and capital replacements costs that will be involved. Read the files and documentations involved and consult with a lawyer.

6. Know the fees. Determine the fees involved in getting the retirement housing. Ask about the entry cost, service and departure fees. Also, consider the benefits and risks involved in the location for you to be able to assess if the charges are worth it. Do not forget expenses that will arise once you have moved in the place. You need money to live and that is why it important to have a financial plan before you make any permanent decisions about moving into a retirement location.
